The ‘Ozempic Face’ and Other Prominent Trends in Aesthetic Surgery

(VOR News) – Surgery to correct the “Ozempic face” is among the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures at the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).

According to the organization’s annual survey of its board-certified members, the number of Americans seeking plastic surgery is being influenced by popular GLP-1 medications.

In a news release issued by the academy, Dr. Patrick Byrne, president of AAFPRS, stated that while these medications are effective for rapid weight loss, they frequently lead to skin laxity and volume loss.

“Consequently, an increasing number of patients are seeking facial plastic surgery to resolve these aesthetic issues.”

The primary cause of the 50% increase in facial fat-grafting surgeries by 2024, according to facial plastic surgeons, would be GLP-1-induced weight reduction. Members anticipate that injectable cosmetic enhancements will become increasingly popular, despite the fact that Ozempic and similar medications are effective in weight loss.

Currently, ten percent of AAFPRS members report that they are prescribing medications to patients to assist with weight loss.

Ozempic continues to prioritize conventional therapies.

In 2024, conventional cosmetic surgery procedures remained the most prevalent. The AAFPRS reported that rhinoplasty remained the most popular treatment among patients, despite the fact that facelifts, eye lifts, and rhinoplasties were the three most prevalent surgical procedures in 2024.

The average age at which a blepharoplasty is performed is steadily decreasing. In previous years, 26% of facelift clients were individuals aged 35 to 55. It is anticipated that this figure will rise to approximately one-third (32%) of all clients by 2024.

While the use of Botox and other neurotoxic injections, as well as dermal fillers, is increasing, the majority of patients do not undergo complex and invasive surgical treatments. These remedies are reported to be used on a regular basis by more than 90% of AAFPRS members.

Menopause acceptance

Women who are undergoing menopause or perimenopause may visit their plastic surgeon more frequently due to the effects of hormonal changes on their appearance, which can include thinner skin, puffiness under the eyes, and a decrease in facial bone density, according to Byrne.

“According to the president of the AAFPRS, soft tissue fillers, particularly biostimulatory fillers, can replenish collagen reserves both internally and externally, which may benefit women facing diminished collagen levels that result in wrinkles and fine lines.”

Byrne posits that the increase is a result of increased awareness of menopause. “The increasing discourse on Ozempic menopause and aesthetics signifies a notable transformation in women’s approach to this life phase, equipping them with the knowledge and resources to embrace and celebrate it confidently,” he told media representatives.

The survey revealed that males closely follow women in their efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of aging.

Ninety-two percent of AAFPRS members reported that male patients expressed a desire for facelifts, rhinoplasties, blepharoplasties, Botox, and other procedures. The data indicate that male hair transplants are performed at a substantially Ozempic higher rate than female hair transplants.

Anticipating.

Members anticipate that their professions will be significantly influenced by advancements in regenerative medicine.

According to Byrne, the popularity of procedures such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and exosome-based therapies is on the rise due to the fact that they provide patients with less invasive options that concentrate on cellular skin healing and rejuvenation.

Steven Jurich, the CEO and senior vice president of the AAFPRS, has stated that social media significantly impacts the patterns identified in the Ozempic study.

However, there is a substantial amount of dishonesty and deceptive information. Jurich advised clients to conduct a comprehensive examination of the credentials and expertise of a practitioner prior to submitting to any procedure.

“According to his press statement, selecting a qualified facial plastic surgeon is the most effective method to enhance satisfaction with any facial rejuvenation procedure.” “Make sure the doctor is qualified, experienced, and Ozempic board-certified in the desired procedure before selecting a surgeon who specializes in facial, head, and neck procedures.”

ACUPOLL Precision Research, Inc. administered a new survey to a specific subset of the organization’s members in December using an internet questionnaire.
