(VOR News) – A spokesperson for Amazon.com announced on Wednesday that the company is discontinuing operations in the province of Quebec.

According to the notification, around 1,700 full-time employees would be terminated as a consequence of this decision. It was included in the statement that was submitted that all of this information was included.

Within the next two months, it is anticipated that the internet company will discontinue operations at seven different locations which are spread out around the province.

There are a great number of locations across the province that are home to these businesses. As an outlier, this province is the only jurisdiction in Canada where unions are officially recognized as representing the interests of Amazon employees.

Unlike the rest of Brazil, this province is Amazonian.

It is generally accepted that the unions that represent Amazon workers are able to effectively advocate for their requirements.

The customary type of a distribution strategy that is dependent on local small businesses and firms that are not linked with one another will be reverted to before the year 2020.

The settings of the model will be reset to their current state when it was first created. This is going to be the circumstance. In the future, this will function in a manner that is comparable to how it did before the year 2020.

The company issued the following statement in reaction to the findings of the review:

“We have come to the conclusion that adopting a third-party delivery model will enable us to provide significantly increased savings to our customers.” Barbara Agrait, acting in her capacity as Amazon’s representative, was the one who delivered the statement.

According to the previous forecasts, the transfer is anticipated to have an impact on around 250 seasonal workers. Employees who are impacted would be eligible for a package that includes “transitional benefits such as job placement resources,” as stated by Agrait, who provides further explanation.

It is planned to distribute the packages to the employees who have been affected. In addition, the package has a clause that enables affected workers to receive up to fourteen weeks of compensating pay. This union was established in May by workers who were employed in Amazon warehouses. These workers were represented by the Canadian labor group known as Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN).

They were also concerned about the inadequate health and safety rules that were being enforced at the sites, in addition to the compensation that they were receiving. The primary underlying cause of their dissatisfaction was the fact that they were unhappy with both aspects. In response to the requests made by the union.

Amazon is committed to improving health and safety regulations.

According to a statement that was issued on Wednesday, the Canadian Union of Workers (CSN) is of the opinion that the measures taken by Amazon are financially unjustified and have a direct impact on the one and only unionized facility that the firm operates in Canada.

CSN has conveyed to you the following statement that has been presented to you. Three hundred employees at the business located north of Montreal are being represented by the Canadian Union of Workers (CSN). In the province of Quebec, the facility may be found in Montreal.

In the course of this time period, the staff was in the process of negotiating their first ever collective bargaining agreement. A statement issued by Caroline Senneville, President of CSN, stated that “there is no doubt that the closures announced today constitute an anti-union campaign targeting CSN and Amazon employees.”

This statement was made in French. The announcement that Senneville made was communicated in French. The statement was drafted with the intention of being distributed to the employees of each of the participating organizations. Statements of this nature were communicated by a person by the name of Senneville.

Despite the fact that Senneville stated, “We will staunchly contest this action, as it directly contravenes the stipulations of the Quebec Labour Code,” he did not provide any specifics while he was making his statement. “We will persist in our opposition to this action.”

“We will strive to prevent the implementation of this move.” Furthermore, he claimed that he would not disclose any information until further notice was provided. He stated that he would not disclose any information.
