(VOR News) – The potential prime minister, Mark Carney, will travel to Paris and London on Monday to discuss ways to work with the United States in the wake of President Donald Trump’s attacks on Canada’s economy and sovereignty.

Carney is travelling to the capital cities of the two countries that were essential to Canada’s early formation on his first international trip.

Canada will “never, ever, in any way, shape, or form, be a part of the United States” because of America’s fundamental differences, Mark Carney said. During his Friday swearing-in ceremony, he made this declaration. He added that the French, English, and Indigenous peoples laid the groundwork for the country.

The Trump factor is the driving force behind the trip. As retired University of Toronto professor Nelson Wiseman puts it, “The Trump factor overshadows all other challenges that Carney must confront.”

A 60-year-old Mark Carney will visit Macron in Paris on Monday.

The next meeting he has scheduled is with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London. Diversifying trade and maybe developing a response to Trump’s tariffs throughout his presidency are the goals of these talks.

He will also meet with Charles III, the King of Canada and the head of state. Former Bank of England governor Mark Carney sees the trip to England as a kind of reunion. In the nearly three hundred years that the bank has existed, he was the first non-citizen to be nominated to the role.

In his visit to Canada’s Arctic frontier, Carney will “reaffirm Canada’s Arctic security and sovereignty.” He will next head back to Ottawa, where an election statement is anticipated in the following days.

Carney has stated that if Trump recognises Canadian sovereignty, he is open to meeting with him. Although he has no immediate plans to visit Washington, he was enthusiastic about an upcoming phone call with the president.

Many Canadians avoid purchasing American goods whenever possible because they are unhappy with Trump’s pledge to make Canada the 51st state and the proposed 25% comprehensive tariffs.

The Mark Carney administration is carefully considering purchasing American-made F-35 combat fighters in the wake of Trump’s trade conflict.

In this year’s election, the ruling Liberal Party is about to suffer an unprecedented defeat. President Trump has repeatedly sparked an economic quarrel and said that Canada should become the 51st state.

The party and its new leader may now defeat the opposition.

Carney should not go to see President Trump, said Robert Bothwell, a professor of Canadian history and international affairs at the University of Toronto.

According to Bothwell, “There is no purpose in travelling to Washington.” The treatment of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Mark Carney demonstrates that the only result of this situation is Trump’s malevolent desire to paint his visitors negatively. It is impossible to have a reasonable conversation with someone who passively repeats clearly false claims.

Bothwell claims that Trump demands respect that is not given in return, creating a one-sided situation in which people frequently compromise their dignity in order to appease him.

Daniel Béland, a professor of political science at McGill University in Montreal, said diversifying Canada’s sector is crucial given the continuing trade spat with the United States. More than 75% of Canada’s goods are exported to the US.

Arctic sovereignty is another major issue for Canada, according to Béland.

Béland noted that worries about our ability to manage this far-flung but crucial region have grown as a result of President Trump’s aggressive rhetoric Mark Carney against Canada and Greenland and the apparent warming between Russia, a powerful Arctic power, and the United States during Trump’s presidency.
